Submission Guidelines

Magazine Submission Guidelines:

Please send your work via Submittable: https://violetwindingstars.submittable.com/submit

​

Poetry: Submit 1-3 unpublished poems in a single Word document. 

​

For other submissions, please keep the word count under 8500. 

​

Short story: Submit one story per time. If you have already submitted your work and are waiting for a response or have received a response, please wait for 1 month if you wish to submit another story for consideration. 

​

Visual Arts: Submit one image per time. 

​

Interviews: Either the interviewee or the interviewer can submit an interview. Please attach the author bios of both the interviewee and the interviewer at the end of the document.​

100 Years of Surrealism Poetry Contest Submission Guidelines:

The theme of this contest is surrealism. 

We will notify the winner, runner-up, and finalists in December and announce the result in summer 2026.

                                         

Manuscript Submission Policy:

We are looking for surrealist poetry, imagist poetry, symbolist poetry, poetry that channels the spirit of the Beat Generation, experimental poetry, and modernist poetry. We are particularly interested in poetry that carries lyricism, musicality, and visual quality between the lines. 

Avant-garde/Surrealist/Nonsense poetry is also welcome. 

 

We are interested in traditional literary short stories, experimental short stories, surreal short stories, and stream-of-consciousness stories. 

 

For a poetry manuscript, your work must be at least 60 pages. 

For a poetry chapbook, your work needs to be at least 20 pages.

Author's Rights:

​

We only request exclusive rights to your work for three months after publication. Additionally, we ask for First Serial Rights, meaning we have the right to be the first publisher of your piece. Once your work is published, all rights revert to you. Additionally, we may request Reprint Rights if your work is selected for an anthology.
